You should always keep your arms straight as you bring your club back. This will make sure you keep constant distance between the club head and hands. As your hands and club reach waist level, you need to bend your right arm at the elbow. Do not allow your hands to rotate as you start your takeaway motion. This will produce a wide arc as you bring the club back.

Your upper body and shoulders should turn when your hands reach waist level. You should keep this motion until you reach the top of your backswing. This twisting motion generates the power and energy needed at impact. Many golfers cannot turn there hips until the top is reached. If this is the case for you, you may need to try some flexability exercise for your shoulders,legs and hips.

The top of the swing is different from one player to another. An effective backswing tip is to know where your top is. Many golfers are able to bring the club well past parallel at the top, and many others will not make it past there shoulders. Regardless of how high you can swing your club, it is important to get the most height possible, as this will increase the clubhead speed on your downswing.

The final backswing tip refers to the transition that starts into the backswing. You must resist jerking the golf club and try to maintain a smooth motion. Make sure you start your downswing with your hips and then follow with your hands.

The initial part of the overall swing is very important because it sets up all other movements.

Please keep these backswing tips in mind if your are missing your shots. When you miss a shot, more than likely it was caused by something you did at the beginning of your swing.
