First of all as you know, there are many different chip shots you need to learn to get on the green and close to the hole. There is no one go to club you have to use. This will depend on your lie, if your in the rough or on the fringe, and the conditions of the course.

We will begin our chipping golf tips with the normal chip. To play this chip (which is close to the green) you can use a short club, like 9 iron or one of your wedges. You should play this shot in the middle of your stance and make sure the club face is square at impact, and your hands lead through the hitting zone. The ball should land 1/3 of the way to the cup and roll the rest of the way.

Next, we will look at the flop shot. This shot will allow you to hit the ball farther onto the green but, roll less. This golf shot is usually hit with a lob or sand wedge. With this chipping golf tip, you should make sure you have enough room for your backswing. If your lie is up against an obstacle, this shot will not work for you.

To play the flop shot, the ball should be played more forward in your stance. With this shot you need to open the club face just a little bit. This shot actually requires that you speed your swing up through the hitting zone and make sure the club undercuts the ball. If you hit this shot correctly, the ball will fly high and land close to the hole with very little roll.

Now, if you need a lot of roll because of the distance to the hole, you may want to try the low chip shot. This shot is played with the ball farther back in your stance, with a mid-iron. With this shot the club face should be square and your hands should lead the club head through the hitting zone. this shot should be hit with a descending blow.

The most important golf chipping tip of all is to just practice. Most golfers know that they can lose a lot of shots around the green. The best advice we can give is just keep at it and practice these shots regularly.

Once you have perfected these chip shots, you will see your golf scores drop lower and lower. It takes time but, practice does make perfect. See you on the course!
